OAHP welcomes BOB ICB Chief Executive to Board to strengthen NHS collaboration

Nick Broughton

The Oxford Academic Health Partners welcomes Dr Nick Broughton to its partnership board from February 2025, establishing closer ties between the NHS Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West (BOB) Integrated Care Board (ICB) and Oxford’s key health research partners.

As Chief Executive of the BOB ICB, Dr Broughton’s membership will facilitate stronger engagement with the region’s health services in the development of research and innovation strategies that cater to local needs, facilitating improvements and new services.

The appointment comes following consultation with leadership across OAHP’s partner organisations to shape the priorities for OAHP’s long-term strategic plans. These include joint approaches to workforce alignment, the development of shared University-NHS estates (including transport infrastructure), and shared governance structures.

Dr Broughton was previously a member of the OAHP Board in his role as Chief Executive of the Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust. He brings a wealth of insight, expertise and influence from across the NHS, both as a leader and a clinician.

Professor Sir Jonathan Montgomery, OAHP Chair, said: “Developing and delivering the best possible care for our region and beyond relies on the strength of partnerships across our academic and NHS organisations. Each of our partners is committed to working together to align strategies for research, education and service delivery. As BOB ICB Chief Executive, Nick Broughton’s appointment to our board strenghthens our partnership’s ability to deliver research on matters relevant to the region’s health services, so together we can work towards achieving improvements that directly benefit the people living and working across our diverse communities.”

Dr Broughton said: “I am delighted to be rejoining the OAHP board in my capacity as Chief Executive of the Integrated Care Board and look forward to continuing to work with system partners as we seek to develop the best possible healthcare services and realise the considerable potential that exists in Oxford and our wider system.”

The OAHP Board also welcomes the following new members from across the partnership:

  • Grant Macdonald, CEO of Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust.
  • Professor Astrid Schloerscheidt, Pro Vice-Chancellor at Oxford Brookes University and Dean of the Faculty of Health, Science and Technology.
  • Professor Rachel Upthegrove, Director of the NIHR Oxford Health Biomedical Research Centre.
