Dr Karl Marlowe

Dr Karl Marlowe

Dr Marlowe has been Oxford Health NHS FT’s Chief Medical Officer since 2021. Karl was previously the CMO at Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, since 2018, responsible for the clinical leadership of 6,000 staff across more than 300 sites – including five community hospitals and GP Practices. During this time, he had worked alongside the Board to see the Trust experience a shift in culture, transforming it from ‘requiring improvement’ to one rated as ‘good’ by the Care Quality Commission.

A consultant psychiatrist, Karl’s training includes Liverpool Medical School, Bart’s and The Royal London, The Maudsley and Guys and St Thomas Hospitals. He holds post-graduate qualifications from UCL, Kings College London-Institute of Psychiatry, and Oxford University-Said Business School. He continues to chair the Social Interest Group, a non-profit organisation set up to enrich and extend opportunities for people facing social and health exclusion.

Karl joined the OAHP Board  in July 2023 and he takes the Oxford Health lead for the Warneford Park Vision working with John Geddes and others on this critical project for a international centre for brain health, across academic development and clinical care provision.

He is also passionate about climate change and works hard to raise the profile of the need to reduce air pollution, with greater population access to green and blue spaces.
